In this generation of highly corrupt politicians, we get to see few honest Ex-MLAs who served as ministers too in state cabinet but now living in poverty.
Dharamavaram TDP Ex-MLA, Nagi Reddy served as minister in NTR’s government and was MLA for 10 years.
Pagadalamma from khammam was MLA twice but now is working as daily labour.
Vittal Reddy from Nizamabad was MLA twice but is now dependent on his distant relatives and grand children for livelihood.
These examples make us believe that System is always right as long as the people who run in are right !.
This is a tragic soul touching story of an honest MLA popularly known as Dharmavaram Nagi Reddy (His original name Garudammagaru Nagi Reddy, hails from Dhadithota village). He spent most of his life in fighting against factionists who once ruled Dharmavaram city. He fights on behalf of local poor farmers, workers and handloom wavers for their welfare and rights. So, he was fondly called as Dharamavaram Nagi Reddy, instead G.Nagi Reddy by the Dharmavaram city people.

He served as TDP MLA for 15 years. Previously, he also worked as a journalist and his several articles and stories were published in leading news papers and weekly magazines like Andhra Prabha, Andhra Patrika etc.

Nagi Reddy is currently leading a miserable life in poverty. His 28 years old son was bed ridden since last few years as his abdomen-bones got damaged. Nagi Reddy’s poor financial condition won’t allow him to give necessary treatment to his son. Nagi Reddy’s wife also had some serious health problem (Ulcer) and 3/4th of her liver has been removed out through operation. Though, she also needs an urgent medication and treatment she was deprived of it because of the same reasons. Regardless of the party lines and principles, people like TDP president Chandrababu Naidu, YS.Jagan Mohan Reddy and some others have helped his family for the treatment and operation of his wife and son.

Nagi Reddy’s younger son is struggling with small jobs to support his parents and ailing bed ridden brother. The only good thing that takes place in Nagi Reddy family is, their daughter’s marriage with a gentleman Brahmananda Reddy, who standby them all the way.

Nagi Reddy family is currently living upon his pension amount Rs.6500 pm granted for his 15 years service as MLA. Though, the family posses 13 acres of land it’s of no use to them as the cultivation nowadays become a big task. More over, the land is not so fertile to give enough returns. So, Nagi Reddy family is solely depends on his pension. Occasionally, some farmers and workers offer his family rice etc expressing their gratitude to him.

Perhaps, we may never find an MLA who is living in poverty despite serving in the government for 15 years. All this happens only because of his honesty and his commitment to the people around. We are aware that, nowadays whoever got elected as an MLA or MP or even as a Corporator, in no time accumulates crores of rupees worth properties that can feed his next seven generations.
Therefore, it is our duty and social responsibility to extend our helping hand to such an honest politician who struggled for the people. Unless, every one of us come forward to help him and his family, it is highly impossible for them to lead the life even with a single meal a day. Let us prove that, we also can equally respond to his honesty and respect his services and contribute whatever we can.
